Wellness Pavilion
Mill Valley, CA | Unbuilt Concept w/ Ro|Rockett Design
Set at the water’s edge, this intimate wellness pavilion extends the domestic landscape of an existing hillside residence into a quiet ritual of movement, rest, and recovery. Conceived as a low, transparent volume lightly touching the shoreline, the structure frames expansive views across the bay toward the Belvedere peninsula while maintaining a calm, sheltered atmosphere within.
The pavilion is organized as a sequence of restorative experiences: a glass-walled fitness studio oriented to the water, a cedar-lined sauna glowing with warm, indirect light, and an outdoor deck with a cold plunge and spaces for meditation and social gathering. Floor-to-ceiling glazing dissolves the boundary between interior and landscape, allowing shifting light, fog, and reflections from the bay to animate the spaces throughout the day.
Materially restrained, the architecture emphasizes natural wood, stone, and glass—textures chosen to weather gently within the coastal environment while reinforcing a sense of warmth and quiet tactility. Deep roof overhangs and carefully framed apertures modulate sunlight and create moments of shade and reflection.
More than an accessory structure, the pavilion acts as a contemplative threshold between house and water, a place where daily routines of exercise, heat, cold, and rest unfold against the changing rhythms of the bay. Served as associate architect, project manager and lead designer on the project while working with Ro|Rockett Design.
