The original design of this 1955 home in Krisana Park was inspired by the classic mid-century modern Eichler homes in California. In carefully remodeling the home we’ve contrasted a modest black facade with a light filled interior by blending modern finishes with original detailing to create a fresh new aesthetic. Spanning 2,100 square feet, the home sports a quintessential post-and-beam construction with tongue-and-groove ceilings and floor to ceiling glass openings. An open-concept floor plan connects the main living areas, where refurbished original oak floors and walnut accents bring warmth to the interior spaces bathed in natural light.
The residence is quietly embedded within a field of native wildflowers and grasses, allowing the landscape to define the first impression of the site. The dark, linear form of the home recedes into its setting, its horizontal roofline and vertical cladding establishing a measured counterpoint to the organic informality of the surrounding garden. The plantings, conceived in the spirit of Piet Oudolf’s perennial landscapes, reinforces a sense of seasonality and texture, while the architecture provides a stable framework for this shifting natural composition.
