MM Residence

Old Snowmass, CO | Unbuilt Concept w/ Studio B

Located on a spectacular meadow site north of Aspen, the architecture defers to the natural beauty of the rural, ranch-like setting. The design parti is composed of three interconnected volumes: one to house automobiles which is hidden with solid walls; one as a private bedroom and meditation retreat for the residents which projects toward the primary view of the mountains; and one containing the public living spaces which are arranged perpendicular to the view. The simplicity of the floorplan allows floor to ceiling windows to be placed at specific locations to engage distant mountain vistas. Driven by the clients’ quiet and meditative lifestyle, the use of Japanese inspired wood louvres provide privacy from views between the public and private spaces as well as allowing a filtered, atmospheric light to enter the interior spaces. Served as lead designer on the project while previously working at Studio B Architects.
